Professor Steve Wesselingh (Chair)
Professor Steve Wesselingh is Executive Director of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Prior to that he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University. He formerly Director of the Burnet Institute. Professor Wesselingh is recognised internationally as an expert in viruses that affect the human brain, and holds major grants from both the National Institutes of Health and National Health and Medical Research Council.
Ian Sanders (Secretary)
Ian Sanders is an audit partner with Deloitte, with over 20 years experience in Australia and in the US. He led the Victorian Assurance and Advisory practice in the Melbourne office of Deloitte in 2007 and 2008. Ian has also spent 15 months as project manager for the BHP Billiton IFRS implementation and subsequently was also the lead accounting partner on the delivery of the fair value accounting for BHP Billiton’s acquisition of WMC Resources.
The Hon Robert Knowles AO
Rob Knowles has been the Chair of the Mental Health Council of Australia since April 2006. He is a member of the National Health and Hospital Reform Commission, and also Chair of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia, Chair of the Royal Children’s Hospital Campus Council, and a member of the Board of the Brotherhood of St Lawrence. He is a former Victorian Minister of Health, Housing and Aged Care.
Amanda Milledge
Amanda Milledge has a background as a commercial lawyer. After working as a senior associate with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, she took on the role of Pro Bono Coordinator in Mallesons’ Melbourne office. Amanda has a particular interest in strategic philanthropy and in helping business, government and the community work together. She is an accredited broker under the Partnership Brokers’ Accreditation Scheme.
Terry Scanlon
Terry Scanlon is a small to medium business operator with extensive experience in sales, management and business development. Terry was the owner and managing director of Lifestyle & Rehab, a business he began in 1991 after identifying a need for rehabilitation and aged care equipment in Victoria. Under Terry’s strong leadership, the business grew to 120 employees, with nine sites along the east coast of Australia. When he sold the business, it was the largest Australian business in the rehabilitation and aged care field. Tony now works as a small business consultant.
Dr Ingrid van Beek
Dr Ingrid van Beek is a Public Health and Addiction Medicine physician, whose professional focus has been on the prevention and reduction of drug-related harm among marginalised populations. She has been the Director of the Kirketon Road Centre in Sydney’s Kings Cross since 1989. In 2000, she became the Foundation Medical Director of Australia’s first medically supervised injecting centre – a position she held for 8 years. Ingrid is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer of the School of Community Medicine and Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of NSW and is the Immediate Past President of the Australasian Professional Society of Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD).
The Hon David White
David White was a Minister in the Victorian Government for more than 10 years. As Minister for Health he was responsible for the introduction of a free needle exchange and the establishment of the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation. David is a Council member at the University of Melbourne.
Scott Wilson
Mr Scott Wilson is Director of the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council (South Australia) and is also a Deputy Chair of the National Indigenous Drug and Alcohol Committee.
